I've never really understood the allure of the K2 line of themes and mods. They're incredibly plain and boring, but I guess some people like that.

@mahesh: a good place to start is the Wordpress codex's Blog Design and Layout section. Texto.de has a nice tutorial also. There's a ton of resources but those have caught my attention and come to mind.
I actually like the default k2 style. Reminds me of the nostalgic 70's for some reason but that's me.

If you're looking for something that's free of the "whistles and bells", then just get Sandbox (http://www.plaintxt.org/themes/sandbox/) no reason to get some modded version of K2 for it.
