Are there a few specific blogs here with programmers who hire out - I guess it's programming when you want someone to fix your wordpress files.

I looked around and only saw design and marketing I thought maybe someone would know off the top of their head.

Hey cooper, are you talking about developers who work on contract? I'm sure there are lots of people here that do that, I'd check out the Design and Programming community members and send contact form submittals to them if you're looking for some work to be done.

To be honest I'm a designer but I write JavaScript, PHP, ActionScript, Java and do all my own backend work, but I guess not all designers do that lol.

Mike, you are not the norm babe. :) Most designers design.

Cooper is this about your hosting problem you were talking about in the other note? Are you wanting a design? Someone to fix your files? There is a difference between fixing HTML and fixing PHP. :)

You're surrounded by programmers and I could ask 9rulers but you'd be surprised if you posed the question here you might get the answer. Depends on what it is. :)

Cough on the some of us do both also ;). I'd second the checking out the design community and the programming one (some are in one but do both) for those of us that like to wear 2 hats (some even like to wear more).

Yea it is the same thing. My host continues to say it is not their fault but they reloaded all my old stuff from the old server. Something is still broken though, they say didn't do it. They used a backup and put me back at wordpress 2.04 or something. They were real "helpful" they said "we looked for information on Google and it seems this problem had happened to people before" . LOL

My Wordpress still doesn't see the themes that do work so I can't edit them via the administration panel ( they are all clearly there and intact though when i go to the cpanel/filecabinet and it reads half of them as broken although they are clearly not.

Obviously I need a programmer of some kind and although I know designers and even a math major who I are willing to play with it I am not inclined to let anyone in there unless they know exactly what I mean and are going to be able to fix it for - not a million dollars.

I really shouldn't matter b ut it drives me crazy that it doesn't work.

Wait, when you look at them in cpanel you can only see some of the themes/files? If you FTP in (using SmartFTP, CuteFTP or whatever your program is) do you see the same thing cPanel's File Cabinet shows (some there, some not)?

Sorry for the delay. I marked this as a favorite so I can follow it better.

N,o I see all the files in both the Cpanel and the FTP client but wordpress for some reason all of a sudden does not see them,
it reads most of them as broken and the ones that it does read - the ones that can be initiated once initiated - when I go to theme editor - says "oops sorry not here" or something like that, also says
"All of this theme’s files are located in /. "- No file listed as if it can't see the themes at all.

I hadn't touched anything in there the only difference is they changed servers. They promise me they did not change or upgrade the php or sql so it shouldn't have made a difference at least according to them.

Well, if you are warped back to 2.04 you need to upgrade because they released security fixes (not going to ask why your host didn't have a more current backup).

If the upgrade doesn't fix the problem, disable your plugins then load the theme editor. I remembered this problem with one of the plugins from a couple of months ago.

If disabling the plugins don't work then I would post the question on the WordPress forums, saying you're using the most current version, you tried deactivating all the plugins and WP is still not recognizing the files. For me I can only get those errors when WP can't access the style.css and simply changing the permission to 666 or higher fixes it.

I think you might be better served posting such a solicitation at a site made by 9rules.com member Kasra. His site, Programmer Meet Designer is specifically for posting contract jobs and business opportunities between web designers, web programmers, copywriters, and entrepreneurs. I've hired a 9rules member for web application design from a PMD listing with great results.

I think the system works better if you are actually contracting someone, but I know people use it for business opportunities too. Good luck.

tyme: thanks I'm going to fish through those forums, and it was 2.05 i see now. I'm not sure either as the last one I was on was 2.07. I'm still investigating it all so I'll let you know how it is resolved.

Teej:

Thanks for the info.

One thing that comes to mind is that the upgrade may have messed up the type of line return used in the files. Unix can't read Windows line returns. If you open one of the PHP files from the command line, do you see ^M at the end of each line? If so, that might be your problem.

Of course, this is just a giant stab in the dark, but many file problems I've had have stemmed from this.

Also don't forget, some of us pro developers aren't in the design or programming communities, cause we blog about other things like art and humor. ;)
