Yeah minor stuff like that always made me chuckle, if you don't want to pay switch to an iPhone and have higher monthly costs or just don't upgrade at all and save your $10.

Maybe Ericsson has a timer on the phones that break them so you are forced to upgrade.

Just thought of this so it is not thought through at all, but an upcoming Entertainment digest.

- What movies are coming out this week with their previews.
- What songs are coming out this week with their singles and music videos.
- What movies are coming out on DVD with their previews.
- Maybe hook into the soundtrack with music videos.

» iPod Touch 2G in September?  ...  Last Reply: 6 months ago by Scrivs.

I think I would wait because at the very least you are sure to get a price drop and if not a stroage boost. With the new 3G iPhones they almost have to come out with some new iPod Touches or reduce the pricing. Of course September is a long way away or right around the corner depending on how you look at it.

On my phone there is simply an option to clear all folders, doesn't specify the storage device so maybe you can just do that. If all else fails I know some phone work just by removing the SIM card and putting it back in. This doesn't erase it because it is a SIM card, but seems to reset the phone.

KDE's Windows team has done an excellent job of making the KOffice 2.0 Alpha 8 installation as seamless as possible. Simply download and run the installer script and all the required packages will be calculated, downloaded from the repository, and installed on the computer. TechWorld tried the installer with Windows XP.

Scientific Method: Relationships Among Scientific Paradigms

Science Community — Posted: Jul. 7, 2008

This map was constructed by sorting roughly 800,000 published papers into 776 different scientific paradigms (shown as pale circular nodes) based on how often the papers were cited together by authors of other papers. Links (curved black lines) were made between the paradigms that shared papers, then treated as rubber bands, holding similar paradigms nearer one another when a physical simulation forced every paradigm to repel every other; thus the layout derives directly from the data. Larger paradigms have more papers; node proximity and darker links indicate how many papers are shared between two paradigms. Flowing labels list common words unique to each paradigm, large labels general areas of scientific inquiry.

» How Twitter could be worth nothing in a year  ...  Last Reply: 6 months ago by Ozone42.

To be honest I agree with him since I still don't see how Twitter can be worth anything. They created a commodity and have no problem saying they like to refer to it as a communication platform. This is no different than if AT&T made home phone service free from the beginning and then wondering how can they make money later.

Yeah they would get everyone on their service, but those people aren't paying anything. Maybe you could charge for long distance, but that would be it. Twitter has even less of an option with that and they can't even keep the service up.

I think last week they turned off the @replies feature for the week which to me baffles the mind.

Apple CSR confirms: No iPhone 3G online sales, in-store activation a must

Apple Community — Posted: Jul. 2, 2008

What does this mean? It means getting an unlocked iPhone will be incrimentally harder and considerably more expensive. Even if you pay for the phone and cancel your contract for a $175 fee, the phone will cost around $500, all told. While this is good news for Apple and AT&T - the unlocking imperative just got quite expensive - it’s bad news for folks who haven’t yet gotten iPhones in their respective countries and/or T-Mobile fans who don’t want to switch to AT&T.

» Keep Your Original iPhone As A WiFi-Enabled iPod  ...  Last Reply: 6 months ago by Oli.

Meanwhile, AT&T is screwing over the people actually paying for the service by not including SMS with the phone plan, and charging $10/month more for the service.

Yeah you figure they had to do something "cool" at one point. Hard to imagine them making customers bend over anymore to use a device they bought.

Good point, but that also depends on the text the developers use. Not sure if there is an alt text solution like we have in HTML images.

Google learns to crawl Flash

Web Community — Posted: Jul. 1, 2008  ...   Last By: Ozone42 @ 6 months ago

I can't tell you how big this is for a lot of people. Right next to accessibility (which I think was fixed greatly by Adobe), SEO was the next biggest reason not to use Flash for anything unless it was the most practical solution. If Google does this properly you might see more and more sites popping up with Flash, which isn't a bad thing, but if webmasters start going crazy with it again we might have the '97 web all over again.

AT&T reveals iPhone 3G launch day details

Apple Community — Posted: Jul. 1, 2008

AT&T is sticking it to you people who can't get an upgrade while us newbies without a phone or AT&T service get the full-blooded discount. If you are hoping to pick your iPhone 3G up in 10 days I can only pray you qualify for an upgrade.

Amazing that they do this.

AT&T reveals iPhone 3G launch day details

Apple Community — Posted: Jul. 1, 2008

Existing AT&T customers who are not currently eligible for an upgrade discount can purchase iPhone 3G for $399 for the 8GB model or $499 for the 16GB model. Both options require a new two-year service agreement. In the future, AT&T will offer a no-contract-required option for $599 (8GB) or $699 (16GB).

An iPhone with a keyboard?

Apple Community — Posted: Jul. 1, 2008  ...   Last By: ryanarrowsmith @ 6 months ago

You almost had to venture that Steve-O was working on this at some point, but will only release it if they do it completely different from the rest of the industry. It almost has to pass the "oh shit that is so cool" test before it can be released no matter how much sense it makes.

I'm a touch typer, I hope this becomes a reality.

An iPhone with a keyboard?

Apple Community — Posted: Jul. 1, 2008

Rumours from inside Cupertino suggest that Jobs himself doesn't have this sort of religious hangup about his own work. Reports from inside mobile operators show that whether or not he ever makes it work, he is already trying to make a "slide-out" keyboard for a corporate version of the iPhone.

» T-Mobile to prorate early termination fees  ...  Last Reply: 6 months ago by Ozone42.

But that's here. The US mobile market is poor and has always been poor. People are locked to one carrier because there is a difference in actual service (not sure if this is still true).

Depends on where you live. US is kind of a big country.

That would be a good study: how much money does a company spend just to get back a $100 early termination fee?

T-Mobile to prorate early termination fees

Technology Community — Posted: Jun. 24, 2008  ...   Last By: Ozone42 @ 6 months ago

This is a step in the right direction, but still need to lower them even more. I know they won't get rid of them completely because it is easy money for them and psychologically it keeps people on their service for years on end. For anyone in the industry reading this or in the know, do you know if terminating a contract requires any costs on the side of the carrier?

I might be thinking too simplisitic here, but I would think it is nothing more than pressing delete or turning of the switch.

Either way developers are leaving due to the stability of the system and you can't blame them. Of course if Twitter isn't making money, I'm not sure if any of these developers are making any either so bailing might be in their best interest. The iPhone is calling them.
