So, has anyone actually done the upgrade yet? I hesitate to be the first on the block to try a brand new upgrade ... but the nebula disk is here in my grubby li'l paws and i'm just debating whether or not to go ahead and release all of the Apple-y goodness.

Anyone come across problems with the upgrade?

You bought it and you're hesitant? Sheeeet dood, send it to me!

DO IT!
DO IT NOW!
If not we'll revoke your mac club card. ;)

Yeah what kind of Mac user buys an Apple product and LOOKS at it!

Hell the boxes usually explode open the second they hit my door.

I'll be installing mine in the car in the Apple Store parking lot.

Oooh a multitasker! :)

@jensized
Drive Safe! Practice Safe Computing!

I drove to school one time while building something from source on my iBook in the passenger seat :)

Almost had a wreck typing "Yes" halfway through.

Those poor hard drives... I hope your car had good suspension.

lmfao ... i know, i know. some creepy li'l part of brain suddenly said: "bleeding edge tech ... owie."

actually, my other half's birthday is today and i'm attempting to be a good geek and actually pay attention to her instead of my computer. and if i do the upgrade, ummm, then i will be ... well, you know ... distracted to say the least.

(oh, and i had to admire the graphics on the box before i could even lift out the disc ... i wanna graphic design job at apple, darnit!)

All done. Now off to play.

I upgraded my system to Leopard using Archive and Install. All is working perfectly after removing an incompatible Finder plugin and reinstalling the Cisco VPNClient, Photoshop CS3, and SteerMouse.

If you haven't installed Leopard yet, you are not a true Mac fan.

@montoya .... or you live in the Uk where it's yet to be delivered to us all.... or you are sitting in front of your old powerbook waiting for your replacement macbook pro to come from mars.

If you haven't installed Leopard yet, you are not a true Mac fan.

or you're a cheap ass who hasn't bought it yet because you want an iPod Touch more than a new OS. :)

Finally finished installing Leopard. Been playing with it for a while. I'm not wow'ed by anything, but I like it. One thing that annoys me is no tabs in finder. Just when I thought I was going to delete Pathfinder......but tabs is a big deal to me.

The share screens in ichat is pretty hot.

Upgraded last night and have been enjoying the OS. Nothing overly exciting yet but still am pleased with the very many subtle touches.

Methinks I am going to do a clean install now. Been wanting to clean up my Mac for quite some time so now seems like a good time to undertake such fun times.

Not too sure I like the Finder sidebar though. While the small icons are nice, and the new list style is nice, methinks I liked having larger icons there. Also noticing some oddities with selecting display styles for different folders. Seems that when I change one folder from List to Icons and then go to a different folder that was previously set to List it, too, is now at Icon view.

Anyhow, more news from me to come later ...

the other half finally realized that i've been chomping at the bit to do the install all day but deferred in order to give her a happy birthday. her birthday is over in 9 minutes ... but i suppose i should be nice and wait until morning ... especially since thunderbird has suddenly started acting up and i think tomorrow will be the best day to do a clean install. ugh ... i'll have to go look up serial numbers for everything again and hope that the clone software doesn't bug on me.

Installed it, just started messing around...Not a huge fan of the new dock, as it's slower on my 1gig macbook. Still smooth, just not quite as fast. Going to like stacks and spaces, though.

Another issue I'm having is that my growl plugins for adium and mail no longer seem to be working. I'll have to look to see if there's any updates or something...anybody figured that one out?

I backed up most of my stuff last night, but I just did the upgrade and it worked great.

out of curiosity ... anyone suffer any issues with thunderbird after the recent firmware update?

Upgraded tonight. I erased my Tiger install, installed Leopard and migrated my data from my SuperDuper! backup. Overall I like what I'm seeing, and opening apps happens 100x faster than they did on my Tiger install. Still, not to impressed that the second time I opened the new Mail it crashed instantly; I've only been using Leopard for about an hour. :p

Just open the damn box and upgrade already, there's no monumental changes that are going to destroy your system. If you're that worried just make sure you have a good backup.

Finally I can be logged in to .Mac and AIM at the same time in iChat. About time. New dock will take some getting used to since the reflections make it a bit harder to see what's open, and I'll have to seee whether I want to start using Mail for RSS or stick to Vienna. I think Spaces will be a huge help at work, but not so much on my MacBook.

Worth standing in the rain for thirty minutes and the free t-shirt, so far.

I just need my MacBook Pro to come!

My leopard went to the wrong address.. now I have to wait till monday :(

I formatted the dmg onto my sisters iPod last night, booted from it (over USB no less) and installed it from there. Worked A-OK. Having a few glitches in the OS (Screen Sharing seems to only work with random people, and mounted DMGs won't eject if there's something plugged in like an iPod or if there're disk transfers going on), but I expect they'll be fixed soon. I hope.

I'll probably be shunned for pirating it, but it's not like I really had a choice. Apple knows some people will pay and some won't. That's why they haven't bothered with serials.

I gotta say though, it's just as great as I expected. Screen Sharing is awesome, and pretty interesting with dual monitors. :P

Alex: That screenshot looks purty.

I would really like to upgrade, but I'm saving up for a winter ski trip. Hm.... prioritizing always kills me.

I got screen sharing working with the other guy, just had to relaunch iChat for some reason. The image quality was much much better with him. I kinda doubt it, but I wonder if it's because he lives closer? His was crystal clear. I'm in IN, clearer guy is in Ohio, less-quality guy is in the UK.

The only problem I have had so far is that my InDev Mail plug-ins have been disabled. Goodbye MailTags... for now.

i finally upgraded ... did not do a clean install and came to regret it massively. the apple gods have punished me for my hesitation ... i received a blue screen of death upon upgrade. (and i thought that was only a peecee thing!) i had to restore and re-upgrade ... was a bit of a nightmare and i'm still seeing a few little glitches. i'll probably try to clone, wipe the drive and then run the upgrade and transfer later on. *sigh*

if you have APE installed then it blows up your archive and install of Leopard. It's all over the internets now, just in time to save you the hassle!!

;o)

OMG ... that's it, then. good grief!

thanks for telling me ... i was beginning to think i was just hideously unlucky.

I am in love with Leopard. Does that answer your question? ;)

Leopard is god stuff methinks. The craziest part is Time Machine. The act of performing a backup is such an inane application that it is beyond belief that Time Machine actually makes the process fun! I almost *want* to back files up just to be able to see exactly what happens with Time Machine.

How pathetic does that sound? :P

really, really pathetic, hang your head in shame!!

;o

Are the APE problems pre-update to 2.0.3? I have it installed and haven't encountered any problems yet. I may do a clean install this weekend anyway, just so I can decrease the chance of running into any issues when I am doing anything important.

Straight from Unsanity themselves...

we are actively working on the Leopard compatibility for all our haxies (Application Enhancer being the #1 there, as most of our and lots of third party products depend on that). We have a build internally that works with Mac OS X 10.5... so it's a matter of days for the compatibility update.

I'd like to note that the problems some people were experiencing while doing the Mac OS X upgrade and being unable to boot due to Application Enhancer installed may have been caused by the "old" versions of Application Enhancer not properly recognizing the system version. The latest 2.0.3, released on 13 March, is properly detecting the upgrade and refuses to load so you should not have any issues with installing Leopard over it. For this reason, we recommend you upgrading to 2.0.3 before upgrading your Mac OS X. It will properly detect the system version and deactivate itself.

im good with tiger, and it'll be a while before they start selling it here in costa rica anyway

Thanks for the info RightOn

I did fresh installs on new disks on both my powermac and macbook which went reasonably well. It installed faster on the powermac (only a 1.6ghz single processor) but i think that is down to it having a faster HD.

The only problem I encountered during the install was getting the macbook HD to appear on the select disk screen but that was just me being impatient, after a couple of reboots i decided to leave it and 4 minutes or so later it appeared and away I went!

I tried, but my G4 choked and died.

what do you mean by "choked and died"?

It didn't take 10.5 to well so I reverted back to 10.4

I have a mac mini (intel 1.6/2gb ram) and it works very well. Im thinking about upgrading the processor in the mini to a 2.3GHz. And maybe a 7200 rpm hard drive.

I installed it the day it came out. Everything I used worked just fine.
On my 2ghz macbook pro

i'm a big advocate of doing the erase and install...Obviously back up your machine first.

and what are you waiting for? DO IT!
