Yeah it doesn't take much more than a reboot onto the CD to upgrade your OS on a Mac.

Just run it, go take the dog for a walk and it should be all set.

You put the disk in, it will prompt you to reboot. It will ask a few questions after booting (language, keyboard preference) then it will take an hour or so depending on your machine.

When it's done you'll be sitting on your Leopard desktop. All your files where they were, other than the system files.

The only reason you'd have to reinstall an app is if it's incompatible (very unlikely,) or it's placed files in system folders (also unlikely, but not unheard of.)

I would have loved to have ordered Leopard from Amazon but sadly they will not deliver it to an APO address for some unknown reason. So I will probably end up buying it locally, which is a shame since I will end up paying a bit extra in the long run.

CS3 beta that I've been using the past couple weeks has not been kind to me, it's buggy and very sluggish when switching between apps (and I've got an Intel processor). I switched back to CS2 and it's a lot more stable, I don't know what was going on but I'm hesitant to shell out money for CS3 and have it work the way it was working. CS2 Photoshop emulated on my Intel mac is faster than CS3, go figure.

That's silly. "Not fully tested" does not equate to broken. I know people using CS3 in the developer build of Leopard with no more problems than in tiger. I'd wager there's at least a few here in notes as well.

I'm always wary about bugs in the system, and unfortunately, the new iPhone & iPods have done nothing to waylay my concerns, so I will therefore wait for a bunch of eager guinea pigs to test it out and tell me if it's smooth sailing.

I saw that some of you are worried about the prerequisites so I thought I'd remind you of something. A little bird told me that Leopard is faster than Tiger, even with the same amount of RAM, because it's a "pure" 64bit OS.

Sure, it will probably go slower than Tiger if you start using a lot of new widgets and features, but that little bird has been running a beta version of Leopard for quite a while now and hasn't run into any problems with it so far because of lack of RAM.

I'm freaking out a little over some of the features. I know, that sounds ridiculous and fanboy.

But it's not. How often do you see a company do something that actually makes your life easier and more simple?

Here's some of my favourites

Stacks

Finder updates

Spaces

Spotlight updates and optimization (network searching too!)

Performance upgrades! (graphics drivers, opengl, core)

Tabbed Terminal

There's much more cool and flashy upgrades included, but these will actually make my workday simpler so I can't help but be a bit excited.

I might be getting another 2 gigs of RAM, first. :) Leopard's not a priority unless I see some sort of windfall come out of nowhere into my bank account. *snort*

Does anyone else think it's a bit steep for older machines as far as requirements go?

I have a fairly new iBook and it's at the BASIC requirement fringe... I wonder if you can disable stuff.

i'm currently using the developers edition of the new os and i personally cannot wait for the new one to be released. the new features are great and my version only has a few bugs that hopefully will be resolved once available.

I was loving the concept of Time Machine... but now that they've made it REQUIRE a secondary Hard Drive I LOVE it.

I don't know about you but storing all of my data every day/week/month on my main HD didn't seem like a cool idea.

I want to go to an Adobe event here in town plus BarCamp Brussels a couple weeks later, and look good. So, I suppose I can't escape checking how far exactly my credit will stretch these days, now can I?

If there is no stretch to be had, then no, I won't be upgrading much at all.

I'm going to wait out on this one for a few months... not because I don't like the new OS, not because I fear it's initial bugs. But because I want to get one of the upcoming Macbooks with the metal casing.

After seeing the picture on Apple.com featuring Macbooks I felt a bit disappointed. Because that picture probably means that the new Macbooks will only arrive next year.

Oh well... there's still the new iMac :)

I'm thinking of getting a brand new laptop to replace my current MacBook and upgrading the OS on my iMac. It's one license per system, right?

I LOVE waiting for Apple stuff in the mail... ok I REALLY hate the waiting so I usually just go to the Apple Store :)

But it's SO like Christmas, opening that gorgeous packaging!
