Yeah it doesn't take much more than a reboot onto the CD to upgrade your OS on a Mac.

Just run it, go take the dog for a walk and it should be all set.

You put the disk in, it will prompt you to reboot. It will ask a few questions after booting (language, keyboard preference) then it will take an hour or so depending on your machine.

When it's done you'll be sitting on your Leopard desktop. All your files where they were, other than the system files.

The only reason you'd have to reinstall an app is if it's incompatible (very unlikely,) or it's placed files in system folders (also unlikely, but not unheard of.)

I've never upgraded OS x on a Mac before, so can someone shine light on how easy it is? Will I need to reinstall all of my applications and stuff after upgrading, or does it handle all of that?

I would have loved to have ordered Leopard from Amazon but sadly they will not deliver it to an APO address for some unknown reason. So I will probably end up buying it locally, which is a shame since I will end up paying a bit extra in the long run.

I wish iChat was available for windows though, as there's some pretty awesome new features in there, but they're fairly limited when it only works with other people running iChat...

Jeff I agree, transparency doesn't make me really think something is clickable, more like a gimmick. It's something that I'd think that Vista would have, no Leopard.

CS3 beta that I've been using the past couple weeks has not been kind to me, it's buggy and very sluggish when switching between apps (and I've got an Intel processor). I switched back to CS2 and it's a lot more stable, I don't know what was going on but I'm hesitant to shell out money for CS3 and have it work the way it was working. CS2 Photoshop emulated on my Intel mac is faster than CS3, go figure.

Is it just me, or is the new UI a step backwards? I didn't think the menu bar needs to be transparent. The dock being pseudo-3d seems unnecessary too.

That's silly. "Not fully tested" does not equate to broken. I know people using CS3 in the developer build of Leopard with no more problems than in tiger. I'd wager there's at least a few here in notes as well.

You don't need confirmations that CS3 runs on it. Everything that runs on tiger will run on it.

I'm going to the premiere at the Apple Store as I have for the last two releases. To my knowledge I've never had any issues adopting early and I doubt this will be any different.

I think I'm going to wait awhile, though it might be hard (so many cool features!). I'm always wary about bugs in the system, and unfortunately, the new iPhone & iPods have done nothing to waylay my concerns, so I will therefore wait for a bunch of eager guinea pigs to test it out and tell me if it's smooth sailing.

I have a G4 iBook so I'm not sure how well it'll run Leopard. And I'm also not big on crowds. So I think I'll be waiting at least a week or two and checking in here to see what others say about their experience. I'm looking forward to QuickLook though.

I saw that some of you are worried about the prerequisites so I thought I'd remind you of something. A little bird told me that Leopard is faster than Tiger, even with the same amount of RAM, because it's a "pure" 64bit OS.

Sure, it will probably go slower than Tiger if you start using a lot of new widgets and features, but that little bird has been running a beta version of Leopard for quite a while now and hasn't run into any problems with it so far because of lack of RAM.

My first gen Mac Mini is still running on Panther! I've also recently gotten a MacBook, so I'm thinking of migrating the latter's license of Tiger onto the Mini, and upgrading the MacBook to Leopard. Yey for upgrades. Or you know.. just take advantage of that student discount and get two copies ;)

But it's not. How often do you see a company do something that actually makes your life easier and more simple?

There's much more cool and flashy upgrades included, but these will actually make my workday simpler so I can't help but be a bit excited.

I've got a 1st gen Mac Mini at home. So, needless to say, I don't think I want to push her any further as she has been upgraded to Tiger and is running smoothly. Don't care to chance it.

Hopefully I will get a new system with Leopard already installed. That would be awesome.

i'm currently using the developers edition of the new os and i personally cannot wait for the new one to be released. the new features are great and my version only has a few bugs that hopefully will be resolved once available.

I was loving the concept of Time Machine... but now that they've made it REQUIRE a secondary Hard Drive I LOVE it.

I don't know about you but storing all of my data every day/week/month on my main HD didn't seem like a cool idea.

I'm going to wait out on this one for a few months... not because I don't like the new OS, not because I fear it's initial bugs. But because I want to get one of the upcoming Macbooks with the metal casing.

After seeing the picture on Apple.com featuring Macbooks I felt a bit disappointed. Because that picture probably means that the new Macbooks will only arrive next year.

Oh well... there's still the new iMac :)

Well just got off the phone and 2 free upgrades a coming .... woo hooo. Also my order if finally in the UK.... it's a happy apple week as they should turn up at worst on friday and then leopard next friday - it's like santa claus apple is coming (ok a santa I had to pay for but still yay).
