I bought one of the new MBP's with the Santa Rosa Core. It is often very hot on the bottom (iStat tells me the enclosure temperature is 32 C). The CPU hovers around the low 50s.

Santa Rosa Processor loaded MBPs are supposed to be cooler in comparison... Someone who've bought a MBP with SR, share your comments pls.

Also Solepsis @ Is this complaint after you installed the firmware that Apple rolled out? Cuz I experienced a 5 degrees decrease in temperature immediately...

I think it might actually be firefox that's pushing the temperature up...

Yeah, I think something's wrong if it's going up to the 80's without much work. My MBP (2.4GHz Santa Rosa) is hovering around 46°C right now and I've only ever had it go up into the low- to mid-seventies and that was when I was messing around with Motion and other intensive stuff.

Is your fan kicking in? If you're usng smcfancontrol, it should tell you (the max is about 6000RPM).

@erin I use smcfancontrol

@elliothere I guess it's the processor; that's what the thermometers read

i have a 17" mbp and this thing does heat up, but mainly when its on a flat surface. if i have it on my laptop stand where air can get underneath it, it cools down a lot.

Paul Stamatiou talked briefly about temperature of the new MBPs when he reviewed them back in June. Link.

Mine has never gotten that hot. The highest I've ever seen mine is the low 70's Celcius. I've got a 2Ghz black model. Right now it's at 58 C, and I am running quicksilver all the time.

My MacBook Pro runs quite hot at times. I've never measured the temperature, but on my lap it is quite warming. However, it has never cut out so I'm presuming it is okay. It is only the underside that gets hot, and placing it on the elevator helps a bit.

I don't know if there's an implied question here, but, for the record, my Macbook isn't hot at all... just warm enough to feel cozy on a chilly day.

Just out of curiosity: how does one monitor his computer's temperature?

My mbp is hovering around 80 degrees celcius!! It peaked at 85... I've found that quicksilver and my external hd both drive the temp up, but it's never been this high
