i keep having major trouble with this, but the rolling on the paper trick seems to bring it from the brink of death (:
it still has a year warrenty on it so check that you still have that from purchising it if you have any troubles.

Trying a damp cloth and turing the mouse upside down while rolling the ball on the cloth was what the apple person told me to do. But no such luck, it still would not work, so my iMac was still under warranty, go figure my mouse was covered also!! So now I have a new mouse from apple for free. Hope you stuff is under warranty!

I get this all the time :-( I find that blowing into it and then using a slightly damp cloth and rolling the ball around with it will clean the roller ball. It attracts grease and grime like the plague!

I find that turning a MIghty Mouse over and then rolling it around on a clean mouse pad or piece of cloth usually does the trick... although there are two dead Mighty Mice in the drawer on my desk... so it doesn't work that well.

haha thanks for the tip...

idk if the mouse saw me write this post or just had an overall change of heart because (the wireless one) seems to be working again ;)

My wired Mighty Mouse at work had the same problem this week. I used a Purell wipe, turned the mouse over and kind of, um, diddled the scroll ball with the wipe. After a few tries it was working fine.

I have now had 3 apple wireless might piles o poo mice. I gave up in the end and couldn't be happier with my logitech revolution one. I will never buy a mighty mouse again as think them nothing more than an expensive paper weight.

Alright.. so i own the wireless mighty mouse AND the wired one that came with my imac.

BOTH i have managed to kill the scrolling ball (only downward) so that it doesn't respond when i scroll down using the ball.

I've tried using a dry cloth and clean it by rolling it around - and have even used a verrry slightly damp cloth and done the same. No Dice.

Does anyone have any tips on how to save the every-so-important scrolling ball? Or am i just a grease monkey who should never deserve to use one?
